An organization for red colobus monkeys
We have entered an age where humans have an increasing impact on environments and conservation outreach must be the front-line of wildlife conservation. The overarching objective of Partners for Red Colobus is to increase conservation knowledge of the plight of red colobus monkeys. Our organization seeks to provide framework and inspiration to researchers and conservationists throughout Africa to include education and local outreach within conservation programs. We strive to build a foundation for sustained, long-term education programs that highlight these unique and irreplaceable species and the ecosystems they depend on. Made up of international conservationists and researchers, we work to empower urban and rural communities to act as stewards of these highly threatened species.
Current conservation efforts
Our current work represents a collaborative effort between Limbe Wildlife Center and the Korup Rainforest Conservation Society (KRCS) in South West Cameroon. With this project, we have provided an interactive exhibit in the exhibition hall of Limbe Wildlife Center and mobile materials to dissemiate in and around Korup National Park Cameroon. One of the initiatives of Partners for Red Colobus is to design education materials that present information about colobus monkeys, and other primates, in unique, accessible, and culturally relevant ways. Working collaboratively with local communities as well as conservationists and environmental scientists from around the world, we ensure cultural sensitivity, relevancy, and accuracy in our materials and programming. With future projects, we hope to empower local communities to act as stewards of red colobus and increase the public's awareness of these highly threatened species internationally. Focusing on science communication and outreach, our social media accounts track our outreach activities and communicate current science in red colobus ecology and conservation in a format accessible to general audiences.
